What This Service Involves
The Jaguar Ingenium 2.0 diesel (AJ200D / 204DTD) is a complex engine with the timing chain assembly mounted at the rear, on the flywheel side[reference:0]. We carry out timing chain and injector seal replacement to factory specification, with full strip-down access, component inspection, and reassembly.
We begin by gaining access to the timing chain area. Depending on the vehicle's layout, this means either dropping the entire engine and gearbox assembly (transverse installations) or removing the transmission (longitudinal setups)[reference:1]. Once access is secured, we remove the upper and lower timing chains, guides, tensioners, and sprockets, then install a complete timing chain kit with revised components[reference:2][reference:3].
For injector seal replacement, we remove the high-pressure fuel pipes, wiring loom tray, and injector clamps to access each injector. We clean the injector seat, replace the copper seal and clamp bolt, and reassemble with new stretch bolts[reference:4][reference:5]. We cap fuel ports and handle injectors with care to avoid damage to the nozzle tips[reference:6].

Our Ingenium diesel repair process
Vehicle arrival & initial inspection
We visually inspect the engine bay and ancillaries, then prepare the vehicle for timing chain access.
Engine / gearbox drop (as required)
For transverse engines, we drop the entire engine and gearbox assembly; for longitudinal, we remove the transmission[reference:8].
Timing chain removal
We lock the engine in the timed position using JLR-specific timing tools, then remove the upper and lower chains, guides, tensioners, and sprockets[reference:9].
Component inspection & parts replacement
We inspect the crankshaft, camshafts, and oil pump. We install a complete timing chain kit with new chains, guides, tensioners, and sprockets[reference:10][reference:11].
Injector seal replacement
We remove the wiring loom tray, high-pressure pipes, and injector clamps. We clean the injector seat, replace the copper seal and stretch bolt, and reassemble[reference:12][reference:13].
Reassembly, timing check & road test
We reassemble the engine, reinstall the engine/gearbox assembly, check timing with diagnostic tools, and road-test the vehicle before handover.

Frequently asked questions
What does the timing chain replacement involve on the Ingenium diesel?
We drop the engine and gearbox assembly (or remove the transmission, depending on layout) to access the rear-mounted timing chain. We replace the upper and lower chains, guides, tensioners, and sprockets with a complete timing chain kit[reference:14]. The engine is timed using JLR-specific tools[reference:15].
What does the injector seal replacement involve?
We remove the wiring loom tray, high-pressure fuel pipes, and injector clamps to access each injector[reference:16]. We clean the injector seat, replace the copper seal and clamp bolt with new stretch bolts, and reassemble[reference:17]. Injectors are handled with care to avoid nozzle damage[reference:18].
How long does the repair take?
The timing chain replacement is a significant job due to the rear-mounted chain layout. The process typically takes several days, including strip-down, parts replacement, reassembly, and road testing. We provide a clear timeline when we quote the work.
Do you provide a warranty on the repair?
Yes. All our repairs come with a 12-month unlimited-mileage warranty covering parts and labour.
Can you recover my vehicle?
Yes. We offer nationwide recovery for Jaguar vehicles. Learn more about our recovery service →
